Fires continue to threaten Hampton Roads after a hectic night
After brief training this afternoon, more than 100 soldiers will be available, according to a news release. Virginia Guard aviation support already is on standby. Wind and flames teamed to make Sunday night incredibly busy for local firefighters as scores of blazes broke out. One person was charged with two misdemeanors after fire burned three acres in a Suffolk neighborhood. "It’s just crazy," Jim Judkins, a Suffolk Fire Department spokesman, said Sunday night. "We’re looking at conditions like they have in California, high winds and low humidity. It’s just a bad day for fires." Gov. Tim Kaine declared a state of emergency as flames, fanned by winds gusting to 50 mph and higher, swept hundreds of acres of brush and woodland, wrecked a Virginia Beach apartment building, destroyed a Chesapeake home and left motorists stalled as an interstate highway was closed.
Most Breast Cancer Web Pages Contain Reliable Information
But pages focused on complementary or alternative medicine are 15 times more likely to make misleading claims and contain other false information, a new study says. Moreover, standard measures of quality developed to assess the accuracy of Web pages don't really work, said the authors of the study, published in the March 15 issue of the journal Cancer. "There is no completely reliable Web site, but the bottom line is more information is always better. But consider the source and be cautious in interpreting what you read," said study senior author Dr. Funda Meric-Bernstam, associate professor of surgical oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. "The good news is 95 percent of the information is correct," added Dr.
CSC’s “Doll’s House”: Don’t Toy with Nora!
A Doll's House is the story of Nora Helmer and her picture perfect marriage to Torvald, their two child and a nanny family, and their friends, a Dr. Rank and Kristine Linde. Dr. Rank, a lifelong friend of Torvald's visits daily, and suffers from a disease that will kill eventually kill him, but he is a happy man, thankful to be alive and to see Nora every day. Kristine, a childhood friend of Nora's is recently returned to town after losing a husband, and with two sons taking care of themselves. The nanny, who had a child herself but gave her up for adoption to pursue the "opportunities" of nannydom, was nanny to Nora and is so now to Nora's little ones. Clearly, we have women and men here representing different things: women are happily married mothers, widows free only because their children have gone, and unwed mothers given the "opportunity" to give up their children and be servants.
